2 Explosions At Boston Marathon generates mixed reactions



Two explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon race have left an unknown number of people injured.Video and photographs from Boston show a scene of confusion, with emergency services descending on the scene and bloodied spectators being taken to a medical tent."There are a lot of people down," said one runner quoted by AP news agency. The incident reportedly came about three hours after the winners crossed the line.

AP said there was a loud explosion on the north side of Boylston Street, just before the bridge that marks the finish line. Another loud explosion could be heard a few seconds later.Stragglers heading for the finish line were rerouted away from the smoking site of the blasts.

The Eastern Massachusetts branch of the Red Cross has set up a disaster response centre in the area.

According to Wilson Uwujaren, spokesman of the organization said the five-man gang lived in Enugu, in the heartland of the Eastern region and gave their names as: Uche Nwakor, 27; Ejikeme Oluchukwu, 30; Ifeanyi Ejikeme, 28; Nnamani Ikechukwu,30 and Ibe Kodili and said they “are alleged to be serial scammers who have defrauded several victims.”

El-Rufai In trouble over Jesus Christ, Mary comment

Former FCT minister, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has come under heavy attack on social media for his tweet on Sunday in his attempt to defend the former Education minister, Mrs Oby Ezekwesili and toderide the Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.The ex-minister, in his tweet posted on January 27, 2013, made a joke about Jesus and Mary Magdalene in a sarcasm aimed atInformation minister, Labaran Maku, Dr Doyin Okupe and Dr Ruben Abati.

His controversial tweet reads: “If Jesus criticizes Jonathan’s govt,
Maku/Abati/Okupe will say he slept with MaryMadgalene.”

Meanwhile, Christians and other Nigerians have been attacking the ex-minister describing the comments as offensive and attack on Christians.

Breaking News: Abuja court sentences police pension boss to 2yrs in prison for embezzling N23bn

                           
           
Yakubu Yususf, a former head of the Police Pension Board has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by an Abuja High Court.
Yusuf was arraigned before the court for embezzling N 23 billion. The sentence was passed after he pleaded guilty to the charges on embezzlement. He is also to forfeit property worth N 325 million. Yusuf was however given an option of N 250,000 fine to avoid the jail sentence.
Yusuf, an Assistant Director and some others had been found culpable in the illegal diversion of N 32.8 billion from the Nigeria Police Pension funds. At least N 24 billion was discovered to have been stolen through the use of falsified documents.
Street Journal’s findings revealed that the said amount was withdrawn for the payment of pensions that required only N 3.5 billion. Investigations also showed that ........while N 5 billion was remitted to the office of the Head of Police Pensions office on a monthly basis for pension payments, only N 500 million was required. The remaining was later found out to be withdrawn by staff using fictitious names and cheques.
While N 1 billion cash was recovered from one of the employees of the Police Pensions Office, another surrendered three luxury estates consisting of 27 blocks of flats in Abuja.

Fire razes Alaafin’s Palace


An inferno sparked by electric surge is reported to have razed the palace of Oyo monarch; the Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi in Oyo town, Southwest.
Although no lives were lost in the incident, it was gathered that the blaze burnt 21 rooms in the palace including one in which some artefacts were kept. 
Among the razed rooms include Ile Ori, Ile Ifa where some artefacts were kept.

UNIBEN Prof announces alleged cure for HIV/AIDS


Benin - Prof. Isaiah Ibeh of the University of Benin, on Tuesday announced the development of a new drug that can cure HIV and AIDS. Ibeh, who is the Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences of the university, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin that the herbal drug had undergone ``series of successful tests''. ``We are at the threshold of making history, in the sense that we seem to have with us something that will permanently take care of what over time seems to have defied all solutions.

The Nigerian Navy on Monday handed over a 15-man Russian crew to the Nigeria Police to be prosecuted for weapons smuggling.A reliable source had reported the arrest of the vessel on October 20, 2012, at the Lagos Roadstead of the nation’s waterways by personnel of the Nigerian Navy Shi, Andoni,for illegal entry into the nation’s waterways.

EFCC Seizes 48 Mansions Belonging To Former Bayelsa State Governor, Timpre Sylva


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, released a statement yesterday saying they have seized 48 properties belonging to the former Governor of Bayelsa state, Mr. Timipre Sylva who is being prosecuted at a Federal High Court in Abuja for alleged misappropriation of N6.46 billion state funds when he was governor of the state. 

EFCC said: 
“Assets belonging to the former governor against which a forfeiture order was obtained by the EFCC include a mansion at 3 River Niger Street, plot 3192 Cadastral zone AO, Maitama District Abuja; nine units (comprising six one bedroom and 3 two bedroom apartments) at 8 Sefadu Street Wuse zone 2, plot 262 Cadastral zone AO2, Wuse Abuja; 2 units duplexes at 5 Oguta Street, plot 906 Cadastral zone Wuse 11 Abuja.
